A slew of products exists to make home entertaining easy and convenient. You can buy cans of soda and beer by the case, pre-cut veggies packed in plastic trays, streamers and balloons to use then toss, not to mention sleeves of those popular red cups. In the excitement of hosting, we often forget to think about the impact these disposable items have on the environment.

The unfortunate truth is that celebrations often generate large quantities of waste. Waste negatively affects the environment in several ways. The waste disposal process uses energy and generates greenhouse gas emissions, even if you recycle. Creating new items to replace what was thrown out also uses energy and resources and generates greenhouse gases.
